Masakatsu Shimoda

Travelled in China, Tibet, Nepal, India, and Europe.
1998 One-man exhibition in the Oji Paper Gallery.

I cut fish shapes drawn on the cardboard and glue them on a wooden panel. All colors are painted by Acryl Gouache. It is water-soluble, dries quickly, and also has dry and mat texture, resulting in deeper, or more vivid coloration than ordinary acrylic paints.

Photo-making is a method for emphasizing feelings by directly painting on a printed matter with brush and paint. I like this because it does not repel even with much water, and I can draw lines as I intend.

Acryl Gouache has a mat and good coloring on the paper clay, and dries uniformly, so I have been using it since my schooldays. I have so many favorite colors that I sometimes want to use colors directly from tube.

1983〜 The grand mayor prize of Kyoto Design Exhibition,Started drawing illustration of technique "Stick Drawing". I coat gesso thickly on the bonded cardboards and glue glass eyes and metal scales on it. Acryl Gouache can cover the undercolor effectively, so I like its beautiful finish which obscures original material completely.

While Acryl Gouache is like a watercolor with much water, mat finish is obtained as its original property with less water. Above all, I love the brush touch of this paint.

I apply the gold and silver Acryl Gouache as an accent with Japanese natural mineral pigments. Its silky brilliance is an easy expression method for my feeling from past to present and contrastive world of Ying and Yang.
